Saint John Preparatory School is a was founded in 1971. It is a nonsectarian, tax-exempt, and non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation.

The school is governed by a Board of Directors composed of community members, clergy, parents, and staff whose role is to support the educational philosophy of the school by discussing issues and making decisions, financial and otherwise, to preserve the quality of the school.

The Board of Directors sets and reviews school policies, budgets, and calendar; maintains the committee system; facilitates communication among parents, staff, and the Board; and appoints and evaluates the Director, who is in charge of the execution of policies and the daily operation of the school. The successful operation of the school is supported by the efforts of volunteers working on several committees.
